THE AIDS INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES EVENTS PLANNED FOR
NATIONAL HIV/AIDS & AGING AWARENESS DAY (NHAAAD)
Washington, DC-The AIDS Institute (TAI) is enthusiastic to announce over twenty registered events for the 5th annual National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day (NHAAAD) scheduled for September 18, 2012. Events will take place in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. The theme for NHAAAD is "Aging is a part of life; HIV doesn't have to be".
"We are proud to be leading our 5th annual National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day, states Michael Ruppal, Executive Director, The AIDS Institute. Through the dedicated support of our many NHAAAD partners and volunteers across the country, this awareness effort has truly exceeded our expectations. The impact on increased awareness that has inspired action is the most important result we could have hoped for. "
The AIDS Institute is hosting its national HIV/AIDS and Aging webinar on September 18, 2012 from 1:00 PM (EST) -2:30 PM (EST). We invite you to register at 2012 NHAAAD Webinar Registration and share this opportunity among your networks.
The national HIV/AIDS and Aging webinar agenda includes a call to action for HIV awareness, education and prevention for older adults, collaborations at the federal level to address HIV among older adults and emphasizes the need for increased research on older adults living with HIV. Speakers include Dr. Timothy Harrison, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Stephen Karpiak, PhD, ACRIA Center on HIV & Aging, and NYU and Michelle Scavnicky, Director of Education and Capacity Building Assistance Programs, The AIDS Institute.
"HIV prevention strategies are critical, especially among the aging population", states Michelle Scavnicky, Director of Education and Capacity Building Assistance Programs at The AIDS Institute. "Events planned on or around National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day provide a unique opportunity to reach older adults as a 'nontraditional' at-risk target audience through HIV prevention efforts, including HIV education, testing, and resources for HIV care and treatment."
